The Caribbean is a region located southeast of North America, east of Central America, and to the north of South America. Situated largely on the Caribbean Plate, the region comprises more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs, and cays. The geography and climate in the Caribbean region varies from one place to another. Some islands in the region have relatively flat terrain of non-volcanic origin. Such islands include Barbados, Antigua, Turks and Caicos Islands, Cayman islands. Others possess rugged towering mountain-ranges like the islands of Dominica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Saint Vincent, and Trinidad & Tobago. The climate of the region is tropical. Warm, moist tradewinds blow consistently from the east creating rainforest/semi desert divisions on mountainous islands. Winters are warm and dry. The waters of the Caribbean Sea host large, migratory schools of fish, turtles, and coral reef formations. The Caribbean Islands have such variety and diversity with each island having its own uniqueness. All this makes the Caribbean Islands an ideal holiday destination - you can come back again and again and find something new each time. |
